New Troy Movie

Well Chika, Nathan, and I went to see Troy staring brad Pitt. The movie seemed to be really hyped and being the first movie brad Pitt has made in a few years I kind of expected it to be a better film than it actually was. It seemed to me that the story they told about the legend wasn't accurate to the one told by Homer. I guess they had to find some way to keep brad Pitt alive tell the end of it despite them having to change the story. It was a pretty long film and although the battle scenes were entertaining the story itself was a bit dry and the "sword style" brad Pitt fought with came off as really cheesy. Im looking forward to seeing Shrek 2 sometime soon as is Chika.

Vegetarians are cool

Im a vegetarian and no matter what people say about eating meat I don't think they can justify it.

The Health Reason
Medical studies prove that a vegetarian diet is easier to digest, provides a wider ranger of nutrients and imposes fewer burdens and impurities on the body. Vegetarians are less susceptible to all the major diseases that afflict contemporary humanity, and thus live longer, healthier, more productive lives. They have fewer physical complaints, less frequent visits to the doctor, fewer dental problems and smaller medical bills. Their immune system is stronger, their bodies are purer, more refined and skin more beautiful.

The Ecological Reason
Planet Earth is suffering. In large measure, the escalating loss of species, destruction of ancient rainforests to create pasture lands for live stock, loss of topsoils and the consequent increase of water impurities and air pollution have all been traced to the single fact of meat in the human diet. No decision that we can make as individuals or as a race can have such a dramatic effect on the improvement of our planetary ecology as the decision not to eat meat.

Most of my family are vegetarians except for my brother who has went over to the dark side of Buffalo wings, even my friend Jake has decided to stop eating beef and I expect him to uphold what he said even though he works at McDonalds. The only bad things is that vegetarian substitute foods for meat are so expensive although many of my friends say that they taste better than the real meat it is imitating in tofu. Anyways everyone will have to be vegetarians sooner or later because of the earths rising population, yay us :D Its also great because vegetarians dont have to worry about all those animal diseases going around now days. Mad Cow disease, Chicken Flue disease, angry killer Black Death diseases you know what Im talking about.

Annoying words

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but I seem to hear it everyday. Whenever someone has to describe something especially people in there 20's they have to use the word "surreal." They just automatically use it to describe everything and its so repetitive. "It was so like surreal." Anyways I just find it so boring of them to say that word. IM sure I have some favorite words and phrases I use but it just seems like the word "surreal" is one of those same annoying habits so many people have. Now IM even seeing people saying it on TV and I just hope this phase passes sooner rather than later.

New site layout

Well after a long time I finally completed building a newer layout for the website. It sure took a while and was a real headache giver but I think it looks better than the old one. I am however tired of messing around with it so although it still doesn't work 100% in Netscape and modzilla browsers yet Im just going to have to leave it like that tell I have a vacation. You can see the small notice in the bottom left of the page I just put a notice to use Explorer for best results. Right now I am just trying to pack everything as I a moving to Arkansas next week. The good news is that Chika is coming back from Japan on the 18th next week! I haven't gotten to write any new movie reviews although I did redo the old ones. I need to re-watch some of my movies before I can write anything about them anyways. The latest movies I want to watch are "Shall we Dance (Japan)" and "Bio zombie (China.)"

The allure of foreign films

Films are a thing of expression and a form of art. Watching a truly great film inspires its viewers and provokes strong emotion from them. These stories have influenced society and even dare I say changed the world? When I think of American films except for a few great directors all I can see are movies with explosions and repetitive stories making a sort of inbred trailer park genre. This is where it doesn't matter what movie you see because there all your cousins anyways. IM not saying action films are bad but simply trying to show that action films don't have to be the same movie with a different title. That's where foreign movies come into play. Despite the argument of many Americans there are other country's in the world with their own problems and great achievements. Watching a foreign film is a unique experience, it can sometimes feel as though you are the only one in the world watching that film, its very personal. I say that because how many people have heard of or seen Battle Royale, Guns and Talk, or Das Boot? Those are movies from Japan, Korea, and Germany. Its something of a enlightening experience, were you see a story you never knew existed and become aware of another culture and how a different society functions. They are also amazing films, which contain plots, subplots, and details that are non existent in American films. The styles these films are made in never appear in Hollywood and watching them you will be confused then excited because you realize there has been a great secret out there that no one has told you about. That secret is that you can see a amazing movie, a must own movie everyday. Although as a word of advice don't watch these movies dubbed if you have a choice. Acting isn't done purely by your sense of vision it is a combination of your sight and you hearing. What would be the experience of watching a modern horror film silently? Aren't the sounds what make the films frightening, are they not responsible for giving you chills down your spine? The voices from foreign films are not saying random words, its another language but the tone in there voice portrays their pain, their love, and their fury and to ignore that is nothing short of ignorant. So let me end in saying there are more great films made outside American than within this country so why limit yourself from the experiences of these great films.

Finals week ends

Since Finals week was over on Friday most of the students cleared out making a pretty good traffic jam. My friend Jake who works at McDonald's was telling me how busy it is, supposedly there was a line around the building just to get in to buy their "food." I'm glad classes are over and I am looking forward to the summer with some better weather and more sun than what I'm use to seeing in Pennsylvania. Chika is going to be flying back to the US soon and we will be moving to Arkansas so although it will be a long drive its something I'm really looking forward too.

Daylight savings 2

As a follow up to my previous post about daylight savings I read in the news that a study predicted by introducing daylight saving in Tokyo would reduce driving casualties by 10,000 (1.1% of road accidents) and roughly save 46 billion dollars a year. Japan currently does not follow the daylight saving practices used in Europe and America and people still are divided rather to switch or not. I don't know about you but it sounds like a lot of money and accidents that could be saved and prevented over simply turning the clock an hour each way so that its light during rush hour. Although I was previously against daylight saving time the statistics in this study convinced me.
