New DvD's

I received two new DvD's in the mail yesterday from Mark for my birthday. The first DvD is the Happiness of the Katakuris (Katakuri-ke no kôfuku) and the second one is a "Double Feature" DvD containing The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi and Sonatine (Beat Takeshi). Im looking forward to watching them and giving a report to Goronya-go but lately I have been really busy with work and school so they will rest on top of my DvD player for now.

When I was in Osaka, Japan the DvD release of Zatoichi was huge and I saw them for sale quite often in the store front. In the picture above you can get a glimpse of it on display (bottom right) along with a kid playing Mario on the Gamcube. Overall though I think the DvD's in Japan are way to expensive to buy, but I did see a lot of interesting ones.

Firefox 1.0

Get Firefox!
Today Firefox 1.0 was released! This is the first non beta release of the advanced browser after the team has spent substantial amounts of time developing it. Over eight million people have already downloaded the program including myself. I have been using the browser for a long time and it has been nothing but awesome. Firefox does not subject you to all of the spyware and virus links that Internet Explorer (IE) is swamped with since it does not support Microsoft's ActiveX technology. In short: Firefox is a small, fast, and highly customizable program; which offers multi tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, and overall better security. If you have firefox already make sure you download the new one and if you haven't tried it before now is definitely the time plus you can import all of your old links from your current browser so you don't lose anything! Firefox is developed by the Mozilla team which is a non profit organization offering a wide range of open source programs free to the public. There has also been talk of a potential future partnership between Google and Mozilla. This rumor was recently reinforced since the firefox start page (which you can change in your settings) is hosted by Google and features a large Google search icon and links in the center of the page. This rumor of Mozilla and Google working on a new browser has been denied by both companies but it will be interesting to see if there are any future developments.

Bush reaches out

I saw this on television a few days ago on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In it Jon Stewart comments on Bush wanting to reach out to the people who voted for his opponent. Thanks to Blogitics.com for the video link.

Cooking and Baking

I am actually, despite public opinion, capable of cooking some things. Above you can see the pizza I made, however I did buy the dough. Below that you can see the Cheesecake pie I made a few months ago for Chika's birthday. The pictures are old so you can cease from imagining that they are sitting in my refrigerator growing new forms of life. The pizza was pretty good although it was not exactly my best work. The cheesecake Pie was quite tasty but it was very rich in flavor. The best bake good I have ever made would probably be my oatmeal walnut cookies. I didn't get a picture of them but they were much better than any cookie I have had at a bakery before in my assessment. If you are laughing at me for baking right now consider this.. I have tasty cookies and such while you don't.

The Life Aquatic

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is the new movie that I desperately want to see. It is released December 25, 2004 and is staring Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Angelica Huston, CAT blanched, William daffy. The film is directed by woes Anderson and from the previews the film looks absolutely zany! Its a comedy about oceanographer Steve kiss (Murray) who is searching for a mysterious "jaguar shark" that killed his partner in order to kill it for revenge. Accompany him is his crazy crew and possible a young man who is his long lost son. From the previews I can already tell that this movie has a great sense of style and the sound track is going to be awesome. I also have heard a lot of talk about some really amazing animated sequences that take place in the film, some of which you get a glimpse of in the preview. I cant wait!

Airline

As you walk through two sliding doors you feel a whoosh of wind at your back while you pull along two heavy bags behind you. The intercom spats out various languages informing you of updates as you watch business travelers and vacationers alike pass by. The airport in its own way is quite an interesting place. One might avoid the notion that they have to travel or loath the thought of a long flight but once they are in the airport the memorizing surrounding grabs hold of them. Its an interesting place with everything from the hustle and bussle of people running by trying to catch there flight to the group of kids on the floor playing a game with their family. When I think of the airport what comes to mind is the high pitch sound of the jet engines and splash of wind hitting me as I walk through various doors or on the runway to a plane. I also think of the gift shops and biplanes hung from the ceiling with wires accompanied by usually unique and fascinating architecture. Many of my memories are played out from the airport in a show on the A&E channel called Airline. The show has already had its first season so its not exactly hot news but it really captures the essence of what an airport is and does. Passengers waiting in line some are ticked off or in trouble and all the while the crew and workers at the airport are working hard to solve problems, find people, and get them where they are trying to go. Its chaos! Almost no other show makes me laugh like this one and Im looking forward to trying to watch it more often. I have not however seen anyone one collapse and begin screaming "just get me outta here!" like I have seen at the St. Louis airport a few years ago.

Happy Halloween

Chika and I, in the Halloween spirit, did our first pumpkin together. We haven't given it a name yet although we hold a great affection for this little guy. It might be small but we think that it will be able to stand up against any other pumpkin so I don't think that he will encounter any teasing problems. We might adopt some more pumpkins before "trick or treat day" but this week looks pretty busy so we might just stick with our miniature pumpkin for this year.

He can run but he cant hide

JOHN KERRY: When the president had an opportunity to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, he took his focus off of them, outsourced the job to Afghan warlords, and Osama bin Laden escaped. Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, 'Where is Osama bin Laden?' He said: 'I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned.' We need a president who stays deadly focused on the real war on terror.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Gosh, I don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. That's kind of one of those exaggerations.

March 13, 2002

PRESIDENT BUSH: And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.

March 3, 2002

PRESIDENT BUSH: I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority.

Conservative Dating

"Are you tired of arguing on your dates with liberals?"
"Do you get sick of hearing your boyfriend/girlfriend bash
president Bush?"
Now there is hope!

Its pretty funny that such a "dating service" exists although mostly I am just astonished that Bush supporters still believe that there were WMD in Iraqi before the invasion and that Saddam was Directly related to 9/11. Although there have been several official government reports stating the complete opposite, basically we were all lied too by you know who. Anyways at least they are dating each other now.
